READ Campaign

Since 1985, the American Library Association has sponsored the READ campaign, an effort to promote reading, literacy, and libraries through the use of posters that feature notable Americans. It is now possible for libraries to create their own posters using software developed for this purpose. The NMCC Library is pleased to announce the creation of its first three READ posters, Senator George Mitchell and two students who were both named Mitchell Scholars, Lucas Ireland and Kent Corey.

The READ campaign at NMCC is intended to remind the campus community that reading-and especially the reading of books-is entertaining and edifying, a means through which the reader can both gain exposure to a variety of human perspectives and improve general language skills. The ultimate aim of the READ campaign is to emphasize that reading is as enjoyable as it is important, and to encourage students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of the resources available at the library.
